Kiss Of Individuality!!!

Hey!!!
I lately read few articles about individuality and integrity. It made me feel as though it has relevance with each one of us.So,made an attempt to combine and condense all that i read.It surely makes us walk in the shoes of unknown, yet representing so much so of ourselves.
here it goes.............

"HIS SOUL WAS LIKE A STAR AND DWELT APART"
On every hand are the enemies of individuality and mental freedom. Custom meets us at the cradle and leaves us only at the tomb. Our first questions are answered by ignorance, and our last by superstition. We are pushed and dragged by countless hands along the beaten track, and our entire training can be summed up in the word -- suppression. Our desire to have a thing, or to do a thing, is considered as conclusive evidence that we ought not to have it, and ought not to do it. At every turn we run against a flaming sword guarding some entrance to the Eden of our desire. We are allowed to investigate all subjects in which we feel no particular interest, and to express the opinions of the majority with the utmost freedom. We are taught that liberty of speech should never be carried to the extent of contradicting the dead witnesses of a popular superstition. Life is like a big swing, dangling between the depths of happiness and sadness. As soon as we descend down the slope of sadness, we accelerate over the ever-feel-good acclivity of happiness. At times of distress, when we are down we slip over an abyss of emotional trauma and frustrations. One who can rise above the occasion, is the architect of many wins over sorrows.

QUOTES:-
~~Living with integrity means:
Not settling for less than what you know you deserve in your relationships.
Asking for what you want and need from others.
Speaking your truth, even though it might create conflict or tension.
Behaving in ways that are in harmony with your personal values. Making choices based on what you believe, and not what others believe. --Barbara De Angelis~~

~~Only through our connectedness to others can we really know and enhance the self. And only through working on the self can we begin to enhance our connectedness to others.--Harriet Goldhor Lerner~~

hi... nice post..
but i have some doubts..

"Speaking your truth, even though it might create conflict or tension. "

Now what if ur best friend is saying some lie.. it may be for his/her good.. but you know that its a lie.. and may be affecting some other person.. u just know.. but JUST know.. ..
so now will you go with ur best friend or that acquaintance...tough choice..

"Behaving in ways that are in harmony with your personal values."

what if your behaviour results in heartbreak to ur parents or dear friends... ???

I think... being individual is very important... but we also are living in a society... so that does take some individuality away.. what say??

hey!!!
@sid:yeah...v true...society does take some individuality away.
we tend to become hypocrites, squandering our needs and deeds inspite of not being and wanting it to be so!!!...many-a-times we are just puppets in the hands of these mundane happenings...
